The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Union County Sheriff's Office are investigating the weekend slaying of a husband by his wife, according to sheriff's authorities.

Deputies were dispatched to a home about 5:55 a.m. Sunday in the 900 block of Highway 61 West in Andersonville.

According to TBI spokeswoman Leslie Earhart, they found the man dead at the home.

He's been identified as Timothy R. Smith, 46, of Maynardville, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Smith was found lying in the driveway of the home he shared with his wife. He appeared to have one gunshot wound, according to the Sheriff's Office. His wife's name has not been released.

Deputies found her on the driveway along with a handgun, according to sheriff's officials.

"The wife was transported to a local hospital where she was treated and released for an injury sustained during the incident," according to a Sheriff's Office statement.
