TBI said authorities responded to a home Wednesday night to a report of an intoxicated man waving a gun.

When police arrived at the residence to investigate, Pitts began shooting a firearm in the direction of officers and the person who filed the complaint.

At least one of the shots Pitts fired hit a Carter County deputy, and at least one other shot struck a second victim.

Authorities found Pitts hiding in a cave near the residence, and took him into custody.

Pitts is being held at the Carter County Jail on $700,000 bond as of 11 a.m. Thursday.
