TBI: Man shot by deputies after refusing to exit vehicle and hitting deputy in Hamilton Co.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting that happened in Chattanooga Thursday night.

According to TBI, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office deputies attempted to arrest a man at the 4800 block of Highway 58 in Chattanooga. TBI said the suspect refused to comply with the deputies' demands and attempted to flee, hitting at least one deputy with his car. The suspect also hit three other unoccupied vehicles.

TBI said two deputies fired at the suspect, hitting him. The suspect was taken to an area hospital for treatment, and the deputy was taken to a local hospital for precautionary treatment. TBI said the Tennessee Highway Patrol also responded to the crash scene involving civilian vehicles.

This shooting is unrelated to another officer-involved shooting in Blount County reported Thursday night.
