CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — An investigation by agents with the Drug Investigation Division of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has ended with a Crossville woman being charged with second-degree murder, TBI said.
According to TBI, officers with the Crossville Police Department responded to a 911 call from a home at Willow Street on Sept. 14, 2021. There, they said they found Samuel Mashburn, then-35, dead in the driveway.
TBI said an autopsy on Mashburn determined he died from intoxication as a result of taking a combination of different drugs. During the investigation, with help from multiple agencies, agents said they identified Jerica Hayes, 35, as the person who supplied Mashburn with fentanyl. TBI said Hayes was a friend of Mashburn.
On Aug. 5, the Cumberland County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Hayes with one count of second-degree murder and one count of delivery of fentanyl, according to TBI.
"Hayes was served at the Cumberland County Jail, where she is currently housed, and her bond was set at $1,000,000," the bureau said.
