DEL RIO, Tenn. — Cocke County Sheriff's deputies shot a suspect after he refused to pull over for a traffic stop early Friday morning, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).
TBI agents are investigating the shooting that occurred around 1 a.m.
In a press release Friday afternoon, TBI officials said sheriff's deputies spotted a car being driven by a suspect known to have an outstanding warrant. They said the driver refused to stop and led deputies on a chase. TBI said deputies tried to stop the car in the 1700 block of Neddy Mountain Road in Del Rio.
TBI leaders said at some point deputies fired shots, hitting the suspect. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and no deputies were injured.
TBI agents said they are working to determine what happened, collect evidence and conduct interviews.
