Sureños 13 gang member convicted of attempted murder

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Sureños 13 gang member was sentenced to 38 years in prison on Friday after being convicted of attempted first degree murder.

Jose Luis Andres, 27, was sentenced to 20 years without the possibility of parole after he pled guilty to an attempted murder charge,according to the Knox County District Attorney General's office. The additional 18 years comes from a separate robbery case.

The Knoxville Police Department responded to a shooting at the Montgomery Village Apartments in South Knoxville on August 1, 2016. Investigators said Andres and the victim were arguing earlier in the evening. Andres left, but came back with a handgun. Andres then shot the victim, who was sitting in his car, four times in the stomach.

Andres has four prior felony convictions. He was charged with facilitation of especially aggravated

kidnapping, two counts of facilitation of aggravated robbery, and failure to appear.
