KPD: Suspect in Casey's gas station shooting turns himself in, remains in custody

The Knoxville Police Department said a 24-year-old was critically wounded after the shooting.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Update (10/16): Thirty-four-year-old suspect Ariran Burks has voluntarily turned himself in Tuesday afternoon and is now in custody. 

Update (10/14): The Knoxville Police Department is searching for a 34-year-old man who is suspected of a shooting at the Casey's on Chapman Highway Friday night.

A 24-year-old woman was critically wounded after the shooting. Police have not provided an update on her condition.

KPD said Ariran Burks has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and four counts of aggravated assault. They also said he is considered armed and dangerous.

According to police, Burks was last known to live in the Walter P. Taylor Homes area.

Anyone with information on Burks' whereabouts is asked to contact the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 865-215-7165. Tipsters can remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward.

A 24-year-old woman was critically wounded after a shooting near a South Knoxville gas station Friday, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

It said on social media the woman was taken to the hospital after the shooting. Police said it happened near a Casey's convenience store on the 4600 block of Chapman Highway at around 5 p.m. Police said the woman was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

The police department said the suspect left the scene in a black SUV, which was found empty near an Executive Inn on Chapman Highway.

It said detectives were working on "active leads" related to the case. Additional information, such as the identity of any suspect or victim or circumstances surrounding the shooting, was not immediately available. This story will be updated when more information is available.
