Woman taken to the hospital with critical wounds after shooting near South Knoxville gas station, police say

The Knoxville Police Department said detectives were working on "active leads" Friday evening.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A 24-year-old woman was critically wounded after a shooting near a South Knoxville gas station Friday, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

It said on social media the woman was taken to the hospital after the shooting. Police said it happened near a Casey's convenience store on the 4600 block of Chapman Highway at around 5 p.m. Police said the woman was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

The police department said the suspect left the scene in a black SUV, which was found empty near an Executive Inn on Chapman Highway.

It said detectives were working on "active leads" related to the case. Additional information, such as the identity of any suspect or victim or circumstances surrounding the shooting, was not immediately available. This story will be updated when more information is available.
