Sheriff: Former employee helped smuggle contraband into Sevier Co. jail

A former Sevier County jail employee, two inmates, and the mother of an inmate are charged with smuggling contraband into the jail.

A former Sevier County jail employee, two inmates, and the mother of an inmate are charged with smuggling contraband into the jail.

Samuel M. Maney, 54, of Sevierville, worked in the jail's kitchen before resigning during the investigation.

Sheriff Ron Seals says Maney worked with inmates Dustin L. White, 30, and Jerry N. Metcalf, 22, and Metcalf's mother, Sherry Metcalf, 47, to smuggle drugs, tobacco, and electronic equipment into the facility.

Maney was charged with Criminal Conspiracy and Official Misconduct. He was arrested on November 3 and released on a $7,500 bond.

White and the Metcalfs were charged with Criminal Conspiracy, Possession of scheduled narcotics and introducing contraband into a penal facility.
