SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — A Sevier County student was charged with misdemeanor assault Friday after sharing a rumor about a school shooting and threatening to "slit the victim's throat" if the victim told anyone, according to a Sevierville spokesperson.
The spokesperson said the student went to Northview Junior Academy and threatened another student there. In a statement, he said the Sevierville Police Department responded to a report at the school about the incident and consulted with the District Attorney's Office on charging the student.
The charge comes after dozens of students across East Tennessee were accused of threatening violence at schools and taken into custody. The students ranged from 11 years old to 18 years old.
