SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — A man has been arrested after a woman was found dead following a shooting at a rental cabin in Sevierville in January, according to the Sevier County Sheriff's Office.
Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals said that Daekwon K. Dodd, 26, of Charlotte, North Carolina, has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of his girlfriend, 28-year-old Tatina J. Buddington of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Seals said that Dodd was arrested Wednesday morning in Charlotte after a Sevier County Grand Jury returned an indictment for second-degree murder and aggravated assault resulting in death.
Dodd was arrested by the United States Marshal’s Service and is being held at the Charlotte/Mecklenburg jail pending an extradition hearing and transport back to Sevier County Jail, a press release states.
Seals said that Sevier County authorities were called to a rental cabin located at 3238 Smoky Ridge Way on January 10 in reference to a shooting. The 911 call came in around 8:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers said they found Buddington dead inside the cabin suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers said they also found that Dodd had jumped from a third-story balcony of the cabin but survived and he was transported to UT Medical Center. Dodd was released several days later after being treated for his injuries sustained in the fall.
After an investigation by Sevier County Sheriff’s Office detectives and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the case was presented to the Grand Jury and an indictment was issued.
A $500,000 bond was set pending a hearing in Sevier County Circuit Court at a later date, SCSO said.
