Two people were arrested at a Target store in west Knoxville Saturday following a scuffle with a Knoxville police officer and a response by the Knox County Sheriff's Office Airwatch helicopter.
Police say a Target loss prevention officer recognized 26-year-old Aaron Rogers in the store about 12:30 p.m. Rogers had nine outstanding warrants for his arrest.
The loss prevention officer notified KPD Sgt. Ray Offenbacher, who approached Rogers and attempted to take him into custody.
According to KPD, Rogers resisted, and while he was struggling with Offenbacher, a woman came up behind the officer and began assaulting him.
While he was struggling with the suspects, Offenbacher activated the emergency button on his radio.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office Airwatch was near the Target, located at 8040 Ray Mears Blvd., and heard the request for assistance. The helicopter circled the building and landed in the Target parking lot.
KCSO deputies and another KPD officer ran into the store, and found Offenbacher still struggling with Rogers, KPD said.
Rogers and the woman, 21-year-old Terradasha Murry, were taken into custody. Neither of them were injured. Offenbacher received "some abrasions" during the incident, KPD said.
Rogers is charged with resisting and simple possession, as well as the nine warrants on file. Those include two counts of theft of merchandise, four counts of theft of property, possession, simple possession and violation of a juvenile court order.
Murray is charged with two counts of simple assault and one count of obstruction.
