DA: Man convicted of vehicular homicide after crashing into another car while driving under the influence

A blood sample was taken from the suspect and the TBI determined that his blood alcohol content was 0.18, which is over twice the legal limit.

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — A 25-year-old will serve eight years in the Tennessee Department of Correction after killing a driver while driving under the influence, according to Knox County District Attorney Charme Allen.

According to the DA, Knoxville Police officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Western Avenue at Hinton Road on May 23, 2011. They said the investigation revealed that Ndayizeye Jamari drove westbound when he left the lane, crossed the center turn lane and struck a car head-on in the eastbound lane.

KPD found that Jamari had a "strong odor of alcohol, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech." Officers then took a sample of his blood for analysis.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation determined that his blood alcohol content was 0.18, which is over twice the legal limit, the DA said.

Jamari has pled guilty to vehicular homicide by intoxication. His driver's license will also be revoked for 10 years, according to the DA.
