According to a press release, Robert Lee Allen, Jr. had prior convictions for violent felonies including second-degree murder, assault, burglary and robbery.

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — The Attorney General's Office said in a press release Wednesday that a Morristown man was sentenced to more than 17 years in prison after hitting his spouse with an illegally-owned gun.

They said Robert Lee Allen Jr., 55, from Morristown, was sentenced to 210 months in prison on April 7 for illegally owning a gun. They said that he had several prior felony convictions including second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary.

According to a release, Allen Jr. hit his spouse with a gun on Feb. 14, 2022, and was arrested the next day for domestic assault. While searching his vehicle, authorities said they found the gun he had used. They said it was stolen out of Cocke County.

They said Allen Jr. admitted to getting the gun from another felon by trading methamphetamine and heroin for it.
