MARYVILLE, Tenn. — The Maryville Police Department arrested a man after he allegedly stabbed his father to death on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
MPD said officers responded to the report of an unconscious person at a home on Old Niles Ferry Road around 1:45 p.m. 58-year-old David Anthony Mills was found dead in his bedroom with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds.
Detectives quickly identified 29-year-old David Alexander Mills as a person of interest. Around 2:45 p.m., officers located him in the area of Associates Boulevard in Alcoa, according to MPD.
After a short pursuit, David Alexander Mills was taken into custody. He was later taken to the Blount County Correctional Facility and charged with criminal homicide, MPD said.
David Anthony Mills was a fifth-grade social studies teacher at Maryville City Schools. He retired after teaching at the school district for 20 years.
"Tony was a much-loved and respected educator in our school system. His years of service to our school district were valuable as he has positively influenced many lives. We are saddened by his passing. Our deepest condolences to his family, his friends, his former students, and his colleagues," the Maryville City Schools district said.
An autopsy of David Anthony Mills will be performed in Knox County on Wednesday morning. His son is scheduled to appear in Blount County General Sessions Court at 1:30 p.m. on the same day. He remains in custody on a $1 million bond, according to MPD.
