BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — James Lee Berrong, the Blount County Sheriff, announced Monday investigators arrested and charged a Maryville man during a search warrant on May 17. They recovered multiple stolen vehicles and illegal drugs at the home, according to Blount County Sheriff's Office.

Friday morning, the Sheriff's Special Weapons and Tactics team and investigators with the Sheriff's Office and the Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at Wingo's residence and a nearby building.

This took place after an investigation into Wingo's involvement in stolen vehicles, forged vehicle titles and altered vehicle identification numbers, according to BCSO.

As a result of the investigation, a 2023 Harley Davidson motorcycle reported stolen in February and a 2013 Cadillac sedan that was reported stolen earlier in the year were both recovered, said BCSO.

"Investigators also towed multiple vehicles that did not have valid VIN plates to verify ownership as well as some vehicles with possible forged titles," the sheriff's office said.

Michael Duane Wingo, 55, was charged with the following:

  • Two counts of theft of property
  • Maintaining a dwelling where drugs are used or sold
  • Possession of a Schedule One controlled substance
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony

Wingo was released on bonds totaling $100,000 pending a hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court, according to BCSO.

The court session will be held at 9 a.m. on May 22, said BCSO.

"A female at the residence, Jamie Cheyenne Walker, 26, was cited with possession of drug paraphernalia and simple possession of Schedule 5 (gabapentin) and released," said BCSO.

The investigation is still ongoing and additional charges are still pending, according to BCSO.
