KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Massachusetts man pulled over by the Knoxville Police Department in December 2021 was convicted on Monday of transporting around 3.5 kilograms of methamphetamine as well as six guns.

According to a Department of Justice release, Oraine Christie, 44, was convicted of drug trafficking and gun-related charges. In the release, it said he and Shemar Newland were taking the guns and drugs back to Atlanta after failing to sell the drugs in West Virginia. A revolver and assault rifle he had were stolen, according to the release from the DOJ.

The department said Newland got the drugs from a person in Atlanta and Christie conspired with him to sell the drugs to a person in West Virginia.

Newland previously pled guilty on July 14, 2022, and will be sentenced on Feb. 8, 2023, according to the release.

Christie faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life behind bars along with fines.
