MADISONVILLE, Tenn. — A wanted man was captured Tuesday after hiding from authorities beneath a Madisonville home, Monroe County Sheriff Tommy Jones said.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division and the Madisonville City Police Department attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant at a Marietta Street home when the suspect used a trap door to hide under the house. Despite commands and tear gas, he refused to surrender, Jones said.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office SWAT team and K-9 unit were called in to help, and the suspect was captured peacefully. He faces multiple charges, including failure to appear on arson and felony evading arrest, according to Jones.

A woman at the scene was arrested for allegedly assisting the suspect. She's charged with two counts of accessory after the fact, Jones said.

No injuries were reported. Authorities withheld the suspects' names, citing ongoing investigation policies.
