STEWART COUNTY, Tenn. — One person is in custody after approximately 2,000 marijuana plants were found in a former church Thursday, according to the Stewart County Sheriff's Office.
A search warrant was executed by SCSO, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the 23rd Judicial Task Force. During the search, they uncovered the largest marijuana grow in the county's history.
Officials said they received information from neighbors, conducted traffic stops and handled investigations within the last three weeks that led to the search warrant for 1758 Hwy. 46 in Indian Mound.
SCSO said the plants were found in a "very sophisticated growing environment," including elaborated growing and watering systems on timers. A large amount of possibly toxic chemicals were also found.
Other people involved are wanted in questioning. The investigation and cleanup is ongoing.
