KPD working to find man wanted for aggravated assault after July 20 shooting at gas station on Summit Hill Drive

Dereke Upton and Robert Steed have both been charged with aggravated assault in connection to the shooting.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Detectives with the Knoxville Police Department are working to locate Robert Steed, 20, who is wanted for aggravated assault and reckless endangerment in connection to a July 20 shooting.

KPD said the shooting occurred at the Shell Gas Station on Summit Hill Drive in Knoxville.

"It is alleged that Steed, who was shot during the incident, fired multiple rounds at the Shell," KPD said.

Another man was charged in connection to the shooting in July, according to KPD.

23-year-old Dereke Upton was charged with aggravated assault in connection to the shooting.

KPD said one person was shot in the parking lot of the gas station.

"Preliminarily, it appears that two men got into an altercation and shots were fired," KPD said.

One person was shot in the leg and transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to KPD.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, KPD said.

"Community engagement response team officers quickly located Upton, who was identified as the suspect from the shooting, at a home on Laurans Avenue on Saturday evening while following up on investigative leads," KPD wrote in a statement. "The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing."

A $10,000 bond has been set for Upton.
