KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department said a man suspected in a shooting last week died in a crash following a chase, and two other women were hurt.
Around 6:08 p.m. on Monday, April 13, Knoxville Police Department officers said they attempted to stop a vehicle in the Western Heights area.
KPD said the the man and woman inside the vehicle were suspected in a shooting that occurred on Keith Avenue on the night of Tuesday, April 7.
The suspect vehicle refused to stop and officers pursued the car, continuing until it crashed near the intersection of W. Emory Road and Clinton Highway, according to KPD.
The male driver of the suspect vehicle, identified as 19-year-old Napoleon Moore from Knoxville, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the female occupant, identified as 18-year-old Savanna Howard from Maynardville, was transported to the UT Medical Center with what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials.
Officers said the suspect vehicle struck a second vehicle in the crash, and the woman driving it was transported to Tennova North with minor injuries.
No KPD officers were injured in the pursuit.
KPD said both the suspects had warrants on file at the time of the incident.
Due to the crash occurring outside of KPD jurisdiction, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting the crash investigation.
