KPD: Police cruiser hit while working a crash on-ramp to I-40 west

According to the Knoxville Police Department, an officer was hit inside a police cruiser while working a crash early Saturday morning.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Update (10:30 a.m.):

The woman charged after hitting the back of the police officer's cruiser has been identified as 43-year-old Jaclyn Burdette, according to KPD. The officer was parked and was working another crash with emergency lights activated when it was struck. 

Burdette has been charged with a DUI, simple possession, unlawful drug paraphernalia and possession of a handgun while under the influence, police said. The officer was evaluated on scene for minor injuries and transported by a supervisor to an area hospital for further evaluation.

A 46-year-old woman has been arrested and charged after hitting a police cruiser early Saturday morning, according to the Knoxville Police Department. 

A KPD officer was working a vehicle crash around 3 a.m. Saturday morning on the ramp from West Hills to I-40 West when a Chevy truck struck the back of the cruiser, KPD said. The officer was inside the cruiser at the time of the collision and was treated for minor injuries. 

The driver has been charged with driving under the influence, along with other unspecified charges. Knoxville Police ask drivers to find a sober ride home and to not get behind the wheel if under the influence.
