KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department is warning the community about calls from scammers posing as police officers.

Officials say they have received several reports of scammers using the names of Knoxville police officers to trick victims into giving them money.

According to KPD, callers have also been using fake phone numbers to make it appear that they are calling from local law enforcement agencies.

To avoid being identified, they are requesting payments through unconventional methods such as payment apps, pre-paid cards, gift cards and cryptocurrency, KPD says.

Officials remind the community that a law enforcement agency will never call to request money or ask for financial information. They ask that if you receive a scam call or fall victim to a scam, to report it to KPD by phone at 865-215-7368. For more information, click here
