KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department's Investigations Bureau is investigating after an officer fired a shot while responding to a West Knoxville home early Saturday morning.
No one was hurt in the shooting, KPD said.
Police said a KPD officer responded to a home in the 6800 block of Pemmbrooke Shire Lane around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday after 911 dispatch received a text request for emergency response.
At the home, KPD said the officer was confronted by a man armed with a firearm. Police said the officer fired one time while taking cover, and additional officers later responded to the scene for assistance. KPD said the man was taken into custody without further incident.
Police said, after consulting with the District Attorney's Office, the KPD's Investigations Bureau will lead the investigation since nobody was hit by gunfire. The KPD Office of Professional Standards has also initiated an administrative investigation to ensure that all departmental policies and procedures were followed.
The person involved in the shooting was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Charges are still pending and KPD is still consulting with the DA's office.
The involved officer has been placed on routine administrative leave.
