KPD: No one hurt after 19-year-old carjacked near UT campus, suspects remain at large

A suspect allegedly pointed a gun at the girl and demanded that she put her belongings in the car, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department said it's looking for two suspects after a woman was carjacked near the University of Tennessee campus.

KPD said that officers were dispatched to the area of 14th Street and Laurel Avenue around 3:20 a.m. Monday.

The victim, a 19-year-old woman, told officers that she had just parked her black Hyundai Veloster when two unidentified men confronted her, according to KPD.

A suspect allegedly pointed a gun at the 19-year-old and demanded that she put her belongings in the car before they drove away in her Hyundai. She was not injured, according to KPD.

After investigative leads, officers learned that the car was possibly in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. They responded to that location, but didn't find the car, KPD said.

Since the carjacking was close to campus, a UT campus alert was sent at 4:03 a.m. The campus alert said "Robbery occurred at Clinch Avenue and James Agee Suspects fled in an unknown direction of travel. Suspect has a gun."

At 4:47 a.m., a second UT alert was sent and said "Incident near Clinch Avenue and James Agee is being resolved by Law Enforcement. Continue being cautious as you resume normal activities."

The department said that efforts remain ongoing to identify the suspects and locate the Hyundai. If you have any information, you are urged to contact the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers.
