KPD seeking information on vehicle from shooting on Martin Luther King Jr. Ave

Knoxville Police said a 41-year-old man was outside his home when he was shot in the leg from gunfire.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Update (10/16): The investigation is ongoing for the shooting that happened in the Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue area on Sunday night.

The Knoxville Police Department released a photo of the vehicle that was involved. They said shots were fired from a GMC Yukon at another car at around 7:30 p.m.

A 41-year-old man was outside of his home when he was struck in the leg by gunfire, police said.

Original (10/13): The Knoxville Police Department is investigating a shooting Sunday night in the 3700 block of Martin Luther King Avenue. 

Officials responded to the area where a man had been shot on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Lakeside Street around 7:40 p.m., KPD said. His injuries are reportedly non-life-threatening. 

The victim reported that he had been hit outside of his home after the occupants of two different vehicles began shooting at each other, Knoxville Police said. 

After continued investigation, officers located one of the vehicles believed to have been involved on Mississippi Avenue and detained both occupants for questioning, officials say. KPD is still working to identify the other involved vehicle, which they say is possibly a dark gray SUV.

This investigation is ongoing.
