KFD: Knoxville man arrested for arson after cell phone tower fires

Gildardo Herrera Gonzalez, 36, was charged with one count of arson and one count of setting fire to personal property.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Editor's note: This story was updated to correct the spelling of the name Gildardo Gonzalez Herrea to Gildardo Herrera Gonzalez.

The Knoxville Fire Department said investigators arrested and charged a Knoxville man after a series of fires at cell phone tower sites.

Gildardo Herrera Gonzalez, 36, was charged with one count of arson and one count of setting fire to personal property. He is being held in the Knox County Detention Facility.

Knoxville Fire Investigators were looking into nine fires since June of 2022 at local cell phone tower sites throughout the city of Knoxville, according to KFD. Investigators were able to make the arrest around 5 p.m. on Wednesday on Central Avenue in North Knoxville.

Knoxville Fire and Explosive Investigations Unit members are members of the Knoxville Fire Department that are specially trained in investigating fire and crimes related to fire, according to officials. The Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit is charged with determining the cause and origin of all suspicious fires.
