KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Powell man is behind bars after leading officers on a pursuit and nearly hitting one officer with a car, according to Knoxville Police.
KPD said officers attempted to stop a speeding car on Chapman Highway around 11:15 p.m. on Sunday. Police said the driver, identified as 32-year-old Randy Armes, of Powell, Tennessee, did not stop and ran a couple of red lights.
KPD said officers responded to a suspicious car matching the description of that car at a home on Exeter Avenue. Residents of the home called the police about the car parked in their driveway.
As officers were talking with Armes, he put the vehicle in drive, struck one of the officer’s cruisers and nearly hit other officers who were outside of their cruisers.
KPD said officers pursued Armes from Exeter Avenue to I-75. He was eventually stopped by Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies and taken into custody near Raccoon Valley Drive.
In addition to the multiple aggravated assault charges, Armes was charged with reckless driving and multiple counts of felony evading arrest. Additionally, Armes’ license was revoked for a previous DUI charge.
KPD said no officers were injured during the incident.
