Knoxville — A 21-year-old Knoxville woman attacked and tried repeatedly to stab a Knox County corrections officer Sunday morning with the officer's pen, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
Talanda Yarbrough has been charged with attempted first-degree murder. Bond was set at $150,000 in the case.
Officer Tiffany Brackett was treated for various injuries, accordng to the Sheriff's Office.
The attack occurred as Yarbrough was being led from her cell Sunday for recreation at the Roger D. Wilson Recreation Facility, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office released surveillance video it says shows the attack.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Yarbrough punched Brackett in the face, grabbed her ponytail and pulled her head down.
Yarbrough also snatched Brackett's pen from her shirt sleeve and "began stabbing at her head and arms."
Brackett tried to fend Yarbrough off but ended up being stabbed, according to authorities.
On the video, officers can be seen during the attack running to Brackett's aid.
"Officer Brackett was taken to Fort Sanders Hospital where she received seven staples for the back of her head and was treated for other injuries," according to the Sheriff's Office.
Yarbrough was being held at the time on an aggravated assault charge. She's accused of attacking her grandmother in June 2016, punching her and hitting her with a bird sculpture in her grandmother's Louisiana Avenue home.
