(WBIR-Knoxville) A man convicted of murdering a Farragut couple two decades ago will remain behind bars.
Les and Carol Dotts were shot and killed in their Farragut home in February 1995, when they surprised a burglary in progress.
David Scarbrough was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole. After almost 18 years in prison, his first opportunity to request a release came in December. This week, the full parole board denied that request. While Scarbrough can appeal, his next opportunity to request parole will be in six years, in December of 2021.
The Dotts' daughter, Jeanne Dotts Brykalski, headed a movement to keep her parents' killer behind bars.
"I didn't lose my parents. My parents were violently ripped from my life," she told WBIR. "To say that I miss them every day is an understatement."
Brykalski had the opportunity to speak at the parole hearing and started a petition on change.org.
The other man convicted in the crime, Thomas Gagne Jr., received two life sentences and is not currently eligible for parole.
