KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — A 38-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years after a neighbor caught him burglarizing, according to the Knox County District Attorney.

Kevin Ray Newman was convicted of aggravated burglary and vandalism. On April 11, 2020, the Knox County Sheriff's Office responded to a residential burglary on Burchfield Drive, the DA said.

After arriving at the scene, deputies found the back door to the home was forced open and approximately $8,600 worth of items were missing. A deputy learned a neighbor saw Newman taking items from the victim's home.

The neighbor then followed Newman to Anderson County and notified the Oak Ridge Police Department, the DA said.

Oak Ridge officers were able to find Newman and take him into custody.

According to the DA, Newman has 19 prior felony convictions from Cheatham, Davidson and Robertson counties for aggravated burglary and theft. He has also been identified as a member of the Vice Lords criminal gang.
