KCSO: No injuries reported, suspect in custody after deputies respond to standoff in Karns area

The Knox County Sheriff's Office said the incident started at around 3:20 p.m. and at first, two children were inside with the suspect.

KARNS, Tenn. — The Knox County Sheriff's Office said the suspect in Monday evening's standoff in the Karns area was taken into custody around 7:30 p.m. EDT. KCSO also said no injuries were reported. 

According to KCSO, the suspect has been identified as Russell Lee Kline, 46, from Knoxville. He is charged with two counts of aggravated kidnapping. 

At 6:30 p.m. EDT, the sheriff's office said the standoff was ongoing. At first, it said two children were inside with the suspect. However, it said the suspect released the children unharmed when SWAT and the negotiation team arrived.

The standoff was on Oak Ridge Highway and started at around 3:20 p.m. EDT, according to the sheriff's office.
