CPD: Man arrested after assaulting Waffle House employees, hiding from officers in attic and falling through 3 hotel room ceilings

The Crossville Police Department said Jonathan Beard pepper sprayed, tased and shot with beanbag rounds while he was hiding from officers in a hotel attic.

CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — The Crossville Police Department said it captured a man who allegedly assaulted two Waffle House employees and then hid from officials in a hotel attic early Tuesday morning.

Jonathan William Beard, a 31-year-old from Harriman, was charged with aggravated robbery, burglary, two counts of aggravated assault and four counts of vandalism, according to the CPD.

Crews responded to a robbery at the Waffle House on 48 Executive Drive around 12:55 a.m. Officers discovered that Beard entered the restaurant with a folding knife, struck two employees and ran off with $388, the CPD said.

A call was received from a Red Roof Inn nearby, stating that Beard was possibly in the building, according to the CPD.

Beard was hiding in the attic, which he accessed through a utility room door, CPD said. Once he was found, he began throwing money at officers and refused to comply with commands, according to CPD.

The department said Beard was pepper sprayed, tased and shot with beanbag rounds to remove him from the attic. He fell through the ceiling of three separate hotel rooms and was taken into custody, according to CPD.

The $381 was recovered and the hotel sustained an estimated $30,000 in damage, CPD said.
