Deputy suspended indefinitely from Jefferson Co. Sheriff's Office after domestic assault arrest

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said Brandon Bullins was arrested for domestic assault on June 19 and was taken to the county's detention center.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Jefferson County's sheriff indefinitely suspended a deputy after he was arrested for domestic assault.

Sheriff Jeff Coffey said Brandon Bullins was arrested on June 19 after deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a home on Old Newport Highway. He said deputies spoke with people at the scene and found that there was an assault before they arrived. They took Bullins into custody for domestic assault.

The deputy was taken to the Jefferson County Detention Center. Coffey said Bullins worked at the sheriff's office as a deputy for 9 years before he was suspended indefinitely.

In July 2019, the sheriff's office said Bullins and his K-9 partner passed certification and would serve in JCSO's patrol division. Coffey said on Thursday that Bullins' K-9 had since been retired.

Bullins was also taken to the hospital after an assault at the Mountain View Academy for Young Men in November 2020, according to a police report. It said he tried to use a stun gun on a prisoner there before the assault.

In May 2023, Bullins was involved in a chase that went into oncoming traffic. The sheriff's office said Bullins saw a car driving the wrong way on I-40. That driver was taken into custody.
