Jefferson County mayor pleads guilty to DUI in a county vehicle

Mark Lee Potts, the mayor of Jefferson County, was sentenced to a year in jail but only has to serve 48 hours behind bars, according to court records.

BRADLEY COUNTY, Tenn. — Jefferson County Mayor Mark Potts pleaded guilty and was sentenced after driving under the influence in a county vehicle in 2023. 

Potts was sentenced to one year in jail but only has to serve 48 hours behind bars, according to court records. He can't drive for one year and he must go to driving school. 

Potts was arrested on Sept. 27 in Bradley County when deputies found a county vehicle with its door open and nobody inside on the shoulder of I-75 South. Potts was found sitting upright on the right side of the road in a ditch. He was arrested for DUI after failing a sobriety test, according to the Bradley County Sheriff's Office.
