MCMINN COUNTY, Tenn. — The McMinn County Sheriff's Office said an Etowah man was charged with second-degree criminal homicide after he shot and killed his father on Dec. 28.
MCSO deputies responded to a home on County Road 475 and found 68-year-old Roger Dillard dead in the living room from a gunshot wound. Deputies made contact with Roger Dillard's son, 46-year-old Jason Dillard, who also lived at the home, according to MCSO.
An investigation involving MCSO, a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent and the District Attorney General's Office began. During the investigation, a firearm was recovered on the scene—some distance away from Roger Dillard, MCSO said.
“Over the next several days, as the investigation progressed and an autopsy was performed, it became clear that the situation did not reflect that of a suicide,” said MCSO Sheriff Joe Guy. “Rather, it became evident that Jason Dillard had fired the shot which resulted in the death of his father, Roger Dillard, during an argument they were having.”
On Dec. 31, Jason Dillard was taken into custody and booked into the McMinn County Jail. He remains in custody on a $200,000 bond.
