JCPD: Man wanted on aggravated assault after striking Jefferson City police officer's patrol car in a Walmart parking lot

Jefferson City police officers initially responded to Walmart on a theft complaint. That's where one of the officers encountered James Lee Rucker.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — A 53-year-old man from Newport is wanted after assaulting a police officer Saturday night in a Walmart parking lot, according to the Jefferson City Police Department

JCPD officers responded to a theft complaint at Walmart on East Broadway Blvd. One of the officers encountered James Lee Rucker in the parking lot. Rucker then fled in a black Jeep onto Broadway Blvd. but turned back into the lot at high speed.

According to police, he intentionally struck a JCPD patrol unit head-on. The officer was not injured in the crash.

Rucker fled, again, in the Jeep which was eventually discovered abandoned by White Pine Police.

Police said Rucker is wanted for aggravated assault on a police officer, felony reckless endangerment, theft, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on revoked.

Jefferson County deputies investigated the crash.
