HAWKINS COUNTY, Tenn. — A person believed to be responsible for the threats against Hawkins County Schools and Rogersville City Schools has been arrested and is in court facing possible charges, according to the school system.
HCS said it first received threats on social media Wednesday afternoon. The school district assured online that its administration, the Hawkins County Sheriff's Department, Rogersville Police Department and other agencies were made aware of the threats and began an investigation.
HCS did not say if the suspect was a student from the area.
"Please know we will always take such threats seriously and will support law enforcement and local officials in charging these individuals to the fullest extent of the law," HCS said in a Facebook post.
The threat made toward HCS was the first one in the county amid a rash of other threats at schools across East Tennessee. As of Thursday morning, at least 19 people in the area -- most of them being young teens -- had been arrested for making school threats.
