DA: Man identified as a gang member with prior convictions now faces 35 years in jail on drug and gun charges

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A man with four prior convictions will face up to 35 years in prison after he was pulled over and officers found a gun as well as bags of drugs in his car, according to a release from the District Attorney General's Office.

Anthony Dewayne Dean, Jr., 34, was pulled over on Oct. 21, 2021, on I-275 for having an expired registration, according to the release. The officer asked for his insurance information, and the officer saw a bag of marijuana in the glove box during the traffic stop.

Dean was told to get out of the car, and officers found bags of cocaine, suboxone and marijuana in his pockets. They also found a handgun in a backpack on the passenger seat, according to the release.

Authorities also said he had two outstanding warrants and was previously convicted as a drug trafficker. The DA also said he was identified as a member of the Gangster Disciples, a known criminal organization, according to the Department of Justice.
