The former Calhoun Police Department Chief, along with another former officer, have been charged in connection with an extortion investigation.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, former police chief Julie Tanksley and Charles Godsey are accused of extorting two arrestees by seizing personal property until the arrestees contributed money to the department's drug fund.
TBI began investigating the pair on April 8, 2015.
On Tuesday, the McMinn County grand jury returned indictments charging Tanklsey and Godsey each with two counts of extortion.
Both surrendered to authorities on Friday at the McMinn County Jail and were booked and released on $4,000 bond.
