NASHVILLE, Tenn — Governor Bill Lee plans to sign "Evelyn's Law" once it reaches his desk, press secretary Casey Black confirmed to our NBC affiliate WCYB.

At this moment, there is no exact date on when the signing will be, but it should happen soon as the bill has passed in both the Tennessee House and Senate.

The Tennessee House has unanimously passed Evelyn Boswell's law 91-0.

It is now headed to the desk of Governor Bill Lee. The legislation passed the state Senate earlier this month.

The proposed law would require parents to report their children missing within 24 hours if the child is 12 years of age or younger.

It is named after Evelyn Boswell, the Sullivan County toddler who wasn't reported missing for several months.

Her body was discovered on a family-owned property.

A final vote is set for Thursday in the Tennessee House on the bill named in memory of Evelyn Boswell, the Sullivan County toddler whose mother is accused of abusing and killing her.

The Tennessee Senate passed the bill unanimously on Tuesday. It aims to penalize parents who don’t report a missing child in a timely manner.

Evelyn was reported missing in February 2020 but authorities said she hadn’t been seen since December. Her body was later found on a family member’s property.

Her mother, Megan Boswell, is facing murder and other charges.
