POWELL, Tenn. — A man took a plea deal in connection to a deadly 2023 drunk driving crash on Collier Road in Powell.
Timothy Hooks, 24, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and reckless endangerment. A judge accepted his plea and sentenced him to 10 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, Hooks, and his passenger, 35-year-old April Marie Satterfield, were traveling south on Collier Road at a high rate of speed. Hooks made an improper pass on a blind hill, left the road and struck a tree, according to KCSO.
KCSO said Hooks fled the crash and left Satterfield in the car. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Hooks was found on Granville Conner Road and was taken to UTMC, according to KCSO.
Forensic testing by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation found Hooks blood alcohol content was .17. They also revealed he had meth and marijuana in his system.
“The selfish decisions of this driver left parents without a daughter and four children without a mother,” said Knox County District Attorney Charme Allen.
Hooks will serve his sentence in the Tennessee Department of Correction.
