'Drug den' closed by judge after two overdoses

The Knox County District Attorney's Office said the house was "a haven for drug use and drug distribution."

Investigators with the Drug Related Death Task Force closed a home officials called a "drug den" in North Knoxville on Wednesday by order of judge after two people overdosed at the home.

Judge Bob McGee ordered the closure of the house at 919 Virginia Ave. under the state nuisance law.

The Knox County District Attorney's Office said the house was "a haven for drug use and drug distribution."

The petition for the order said a person overdosed at the home last March, but was revived. Another person overdosed at the home in May and survived. Both told investigators they used drugs inside the house.

According to a release from the District Attorney's Office, Knoxville police said they have received numerous complaints about the drug activity at the house.

Investigators responded to a kidnapping call at the home in December and found methamphetamine, LSD, ecstacy, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, guns, body armor and a security camera system, according to the District Attorney's Office.

The residents of the house, Stefan Dowlen, Jesus Gonzalez and Charles Edward Dewees, must appear in court on Jan. 31 to see if the judge will permanently close the home.
