KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — A man is in custody after pulling out a gun on deputies who were responding to a domestic situation in North Knox County, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

It happened early Monday in a neighborhood off Rifle Range Road.

According to the arrest report, three deputies responded to a domestic situation at an apartment off Colt Drive around 2:30 a.m. When they arrived, deputies said they could hear yelling coming from inside the apartment. The victim came outside "distraught and crying" holding a child.

Deputies identified the suspect as Matthew Williams, 32. They said they went into the apartment and saw him walking out of a room with a handgun.

Deputies said Williams then racked the slide of the gun, which prompted them to shout commands for him to drop the gun.

Williams went back into the bedroom, and deputies said they were able to talk him into coming out so they could detain him.

The victim told deputies Williams had been drinking all day when he became angry over a car alarm going off and a child playing outside.

The victim said Williams became angry, "started acting crazy" and began yelling and throwing things at them.

Deputies spoke with another witness who spoke with the victim. The witness said the victim told them Williams had dragged the victim by their hair.

Williams is facing several charges, including three counts of aggravated assault on a first responder, possession of a handgun as a convicted felon, domestic assault, and possession of a handgun while under the influence.
