Scott Co. woman searching for answers after she says someone shot her Great Pyrenees with an 'explosive device'

Angela Stossel lives in Winfield and said she found her dog bleeding from the mouth after he failed to return home.

WINFIELD, Tenn. — Angela Stossel, who lives in Scott County, said someone shot her dog with a possible "explosive device," and she's now searching for answers.

She said she lives with her husband on around 76 acres of land. She has over 100 chickens and eight dogs — four of them were rescues and the other four are puppies, she said. She also said one of her dogs has a job. Thor, a Great Pyrenees, watches over her livestock and chickens.

“He goes out before dusk, a couple of hours before dusk, he wants to make sure everything is good. And he didn’t come home Saturday night,” said Stossel.

She said she found him on Sunday walking down a gravel road, bleeding from his mouth. She said she ran to her neighbors for help, telling them that he was hurt. When she returned to the spot with her neighbor, Thor was gone again.

Around two laters later, he was found standing in a creek. They grabbed him and took him to the University of Tennessee's College of Veterinary Medicine. There, she said veterinarians told her that Thor had been shot with an explosive device.

She said she didn't know what kind of explosive device could have been used to hurt her dog. She also said she was wondering if someone had tried to scare Thor away, but ultimately is happy that Thor is doing alright.

"It would be great to know what happened, so it doesn't happen to other dogs. My neighbor has four dogs, and we have the puppies," she said. "It's bad it happened, but I'm so grateful he made it."

She said a friend of hers is also offering reward money to whoever helps police arrest the person responsible for hurting Thor.
