Judge threatens Sean Williams with gag order at day 2 of federal trial

Before the jury entered on Wednesday, Judge Ronnie Greer told Williams that he was not allowed to bring up any Johnson City Police Department corruption allegations.

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — A judge threatened accused child rapist Sean Williams with a gag order on the second day of his federal trial in Greeneville on Wednesday.

Williams is facing two escape-related charges, one for an alleged incident last July where authorities said Williams tried to escape from the Washington County Detention Center. Williams is also accused of escaping from a prisoner transport van in October. Williams was eventually captured in Florida in November.

Before the jury entered on Wednesday, Judge Ronnie Greer told Williams that he was not allowed to bring up any Johnson City Police Department corruption allegations. Greer also added if Williams continued to talk over him, he would have a lawyer represent him.

The jury then came in and Williams cross-examined Washington County Sheriff's Office's Toby Briggs, who was a corrections officer at the time of Williams' alleged attempted escape from the county jail.

The prosecution objected multiple times during the cross-examination. The judge told Williams that he needed to lay the foundation and relevance in his cross-examination.

Kristina Bryant was called to the stand, who was the lead booking officer for the Washington County Sheriff's Department. She testified that she found a Bible with notes that appeared to be Williams' plan to escape.

Williams is expected to cross-examine her on Wednesday afternoon.

Williams has also admitted to the jury that he escaped from a prisoner transport van.
