KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Knoxville man faces up to 10 years in prison after trying to ram a car into his wife, the Knox County District Attorney's Office said.

Timothy Ronald Cunningham, a 46-year-old, was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and domestic assault, according to the DA.

On Dec. 19, 2022, the Knox County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic disturbance at the intersection of Barnard Road and Sood Road. At the scene, officers discovered that Cunningham drove his car into his wife's car, ramming it several times, the DA said.

After she got out of the car, Cunningham rammed the car several more times in an attempt to knock the car into his wife. He fled on foot and was arrested at a later time, according to the DA.

When Cunningham was in custody, he made several phone calls to his wife admitting what he had done and threatening her about cooperating with the prosecution, the DA said.

“We know that it takes several incidents of domestic violence before a victim is willing to follow through with prosecuting a case,” said DA Charme Allen. “We do everything we can to help the victim and hold the offender accountable. Sometimes, that means going forward on the case without the victim.”

Cunningham was on probation at the time for domestic assault. He also has prior felony convictions for attempted second-degree murder and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, according to the DA.
