KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A man who wrecked on I-40 in August 2022 was convicted of driving under the influence of methamphetamine, according to the Office of the District Attorney General. He was sentenced Monday to 60 days in prison.

Clint Steven Foster, 42, was convicted of driving under the influence first offense, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon as well as drug charges, according to a release from the DA.

It said the Knoxville Police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-40 at Alcoa Highway in August 2022. After officers arrived, they found a man slumped over in the driver's seat.

"Through slurred speech, Foster said he did not know what happened," the release said. "When Ofc. Rogers asked Foster to step out of his vehicle, Foster crawled to the passenger side, stuck his head out the window, and said he would get out after the car behind him passed."

Rogers told Foster the vehicle behind him was his parked police car, according to the release. It said Foster then crawled onto the ground and needed to hold onto the vehicle in order to stand. When asked to perform a field sobriety test, Foster became aggressive.

"Officers ultimately found a small bag of methamphetamine and three needles in Foster’s vehicle," the release said. "Foster also had an outstanding warrant from a separate methamphetamine trafficking and firearm case."

According to the release, later in court, Foster claimed he was having a diabetic episode and then changed his claim to state that he had a concussion.
