CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Tenn. — Authorities are investigating an "apparent homicide" at a home in Fairfield Glade in Cumberland County. According to a release from Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, officers responded to a home on Wimberly Road about a domestic issue with shots fired from the back deck Wednesday morning.
When officers arrived, they found James Chapman, 76, with "severe lacerations" and a dead woman identified as Karen Chapman, 69. Both lived in the home and James was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Neither victim was shot, authorities said.
CCSO and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation started looking into the attack. Law enforcement said it happened Tuesday evening and authorities had only found the couple after receiving calls about the shots fired the following morning. They said James had fired the shots to get someone's attention.
Authorities identified Jason Chapman, 33, as a suspect. He is the son of James and Karen Chapman. Officers started looking for him, and said he had fled to Arkansas after the attack.
According to a release, Jason Chapman was found dead at a hotel in Malvern, Arkansas. Authorities said he died from self-inflicted wounds.
