TBI identifies victim shot by Clinton police officer Sunday evening

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said the shooting was reported on Medaris Street in the North Clinton area.

CLINTON, Tenn. — Update (March 4): The Clinton Police Department said one of its officers shot a man on Sunday night. He later died at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, CPD said in a release posted to its Facebook page.  

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said 25-year-old Isaiah Gregory Hill died after the shooting. Clinton Police said they responded to an address on Medaris Street after reports of a "suicidal male."

CPD also said an officer received minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, but was released by Monday afternoon.

CPD said District Attorney General Dave Clark was briefed and TBI will lead the investigation.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Sunday evening that agents are investigating an officer-involved shooting on the 100 block of Medaris Street in the North Clinton area.

According to TBI, Clinton Police Department officers responded to the apartment complex on a report of a suicidal individual at around 8 p.m. Sunday.

"A situation occurred where there was an officer-involved shooting," said Clinton Police Department Chief Vaughn Becker.

TBI said shortly after officers arrived, shots were fired and the suspect was injured.

The suspect later died at the hospital. The suspect's name is being withheld pending notification of family.

TBI said the officer received minor injuries. CPD asked the TBI to investigate, as is routine in shootings involving officers.

Additional information, such as the circumstances surrounding the shooting, was not immediately available. This story will be updated when more information is available.
