DA: Man convicted after single-car crash on I-40 on Alcoa Highway

In August 2022, a Knoxville Police officer responded to the crash where they found the driver slumped over the seat.

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — A 42-year-old man could face one to two years in jail after a Knoxville Police officer found meth in his car from a single-car crash, according to Knox County District Attorney General Charme Allen.

On Aug. 18, 2022, the Knoxville Police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-40 at Alcoa Highway. After arriving at the scene, an officer saw the driver, Clint Steven Foster, slumped over the driver's seat. Foster then told the officer what happened through slurred speech, according to the DA.

When the officer asked him to step out of the car, Foster crawled to the passenger side, stuck his head out the window and said he would get out after the car behind him passed. The officer then told Foster that the car behind him was a parked police car, the DA said.

Foster then crawled onto the ground and needed to hold onto the car so he could stand. He was then asked to perform field sobriety tests but was argumentative with the officer.

The officer later found a small bag of methamphetamine and three needles in his car.

According to the DA, Foster had an outstanding warrant from a separate methamphetamine trafficking and firearm case. He also has a prior felony conviction for possession with intent to sell methamphetamine.

Foster has been convicted of driving under the influence, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, simple possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At his court hearings, Foster claimed he was having a diabetic episode and then changed his claim to state he had a concussion.

Foster's hearing is set for Thursday, Aug. 29.
